This blog is about how to work as a husband and wife team.
We get asked what it’s like working as a husband and wife team all the time. There is so much we have to say and so little characters count with which to say it (that’s a great series in the making). The simple answer is, we love it!
It isn’t always easy, but we wouldn’t change it for the world! The key to successfully running a brand with your significant other are numerous, but these are some of our favorite and most notable points for anybody looking to dive into work full force together.
1. Clear Communication
Clear communication is key. Be mindful of the words you choose to use, or not use, it’s important to maintaining harmony in your marriage and business.
2. Role Play
Not that kind! Clearly define your roles in the business. What goals need to be achieved for the week? Setting these expectations by pronouncing your strengths and understanding your weaknesses will allow you to facilitate jobs among your collective to ensure that you achieve a successful and productive week each and every time.
3. Set Boundaries
Allow the work related issues to remain “at work”, or at the very least, away from bonding/dinner time will maintain the love and appreciation you hold for one another to remain untouched by the day to days of work. Sometimes a gentle, “let’s table that for work tomorrow” will help restore the balance.
4. Play together, stay together
Easily the best aspect of working together is the time you get to cherish one another throughout the day. We love our work so it’s easy to get caught up in the flow. However, we encourage you to intentionally step away from work every now and again and relish in the moments together. Go for a walk. Make lunch together. Play a quick game of Mario Kart. Go to the library. Unload the dishwasher together. Make time to take time.
