On our drive back from the Spark conference in Phoenix, we were on top of the world. We had just received the award for “Showit Designer of the Year” (a title which quite honestly still shocks us every time we hear it) so our creative juices were flowing. There was so much to do and so little time to do it in. Now, winning the award was sensational. But, would people be expecting more of the “it” factor that made it all possible? As a matter of fact, what was “it” that made it all possible in the first place? Our approach hadn’t changed, perhaps we just perfected it. The special emphasis we place on connecting with brands has always been our favorite part. Maybe that was it. In any event, something stood out and that’s fantastic for so many reasons. But now the real work begins. With the creative world watching, we would embark on the rebrand of Mariposa Design Co. which was long overdue.
It never really grabbed our attention until that drive back from the desert. But, we had been working on so many sensational brands that we completely neglected our own flagship. Perhaps that’s a bit dramatic. Because although, we continued to maintain our brand and update it as necessary, we hadn’t sat down and fully dedicated the time and energy into redefining the brand in the detail that it deserved. While we moved from project to project, we maintained that since our brand was still offering an experience for our clients to get to know us, we could manage without having to fully dedicate ourselves to that self care just yet. But that’s always how it goes, isn’t it? It seems selfish to dedicate the time to self because there are other things to work on. And while that spirit of servitude is remarkable in itself, it can at times, be our own worst enemy. Continuing to put yourself last will only lead to burn out and that is no bueno.
So, we decided to carve out the time to rebrand MDC as we see it – bringing out the great stuff that was always inside. Like the chocolate from the center of a drumstick. Sasha grabbed her MacBook, logged into Showit and immediately began designing our new online home. It would, and always will, showcase the same Spanish theme to honor tradition – but, the vibes would be entirely modern. Our online shop would become more robust in preparation for new and exciting things to come. Furthermore, education would be a centerpiece throughout every page of the website. Helping our audience better understand the processes and the road map to success would remain paramount.
A beautiful dance occurs between the visuals and word play every time Sasha and I work together. She’ll add her touch to every single element of the site. Leaving me with a beautifully designed blank canvas to paint pictures with words. This allows our talents to stand out independently while complementing the other in a way that’s really quite breathtaking. We bounce ideas off one another to ensure that our online home is an honest representation of us. The days leading up to Launch Day are always the most “interesting”. While we scramble to create content to pair with the launch of the site, we also have projects in the works. Because, although we can dedicate the time to ourselves, we can never stop creating alongside the best creatives in the industry.
